Chapter 09

This chapter measures the UAE social audience platform by platform, shows how far social video shapes travel decisions, and sets out what each platform has published about hospitality advertising, organic performance and creators. The headline is a market with 12.5m social media user identities (advertising-tool identities, not deduplicated people) against a population of 11.4m, where internet users aged 16+ use 8.69 social platforms a month, the highest count in the world, and where YouTube (63%), Instagram (59%) and TikTok (51%) are the three most-used travel inspiration sources among UAE travellers surveyed by Skyscanner. The limits of the evidence are just as clear: no platform publishes UAE hospitality cost benchmarks, and a UAE hotel organic engagement benchmark was not established in reviewed sources.

In brief

  • The UAE had 12.5m social media user identities in late 2025, 110% of its 11.4m population, up 16.7% in a year; DataReportal reports those identities as 67.1% male and 32.9% female, a description of advertising identities, not of people or hotel guests.
  • Advertising reach by platform, late 2025 (each publisher's own unit; audiences are not additive): Facebook 9.70m, LinkedIn 10.0m registered members, YouTube 8.37m, Instagram 8.05m, Messenger 5.65m, Snapchat 5.13m, X 2.85m, Reddit 2.45m, Threads 893k (DataReportal; DataReportal, end 2025). TikTok is reported at 12.5m adults 18+ by DataReportal and 15.5m by Fusion5; the two series use different samples and are not merged.
  • UAE internet users aged 16+ use 8.69 social platforms a month (highest globally) and watch 15 hours 8 minutes of video a week (7th globally); We Are Social's own launch event quoted about 7 platforms.
  • Social networks are the primary brand-research tool for 48.1% of UAE users surveyed, yet only 7% say they bought on an influencer recommendation, against 19.3% in Saudi Arabia (Digital 2026 survey population).
  • Among UAE travellers surveyed by Skyscanner (UAE sample 1,000), 63% name YouTube, 59% Instagram and 51% TikTok as inspiration sources (overlapping selections); 65% of younger UAE travellers say social media influences travel decisions, in a study that does not define "younger" or state its sample.
  • UAE Meta CPM across all industries averaged about USD 15.80 between July 2025 and July 2026 in Superads' vendor sample, peaking at USD 23.52 in November 2025 and falling to USD 8.92 in May 2026; median CPC was about 1.08, currency not stated by the tool.
  • Platform-published hospitality cases include Address Hotels + Resorts on TikTok (7x ROAS month on month), Visit Abu Dhabi on TikTok (6-second CPV 73% below benchmark) and Atlantis The Palm on Yandex (1,039% ROI); all are selected, self-reported examples, not UAE averages.
  • Global travel brands earn 0.341% engagement per Instagram post and 2.73% per TikTok video (2024 data); hotel Instagram engagement worldwide is about 0.46% per post; a UAE hotel benchmark was not found in the sources reviewed.
  • 85% of UAE residents polled by YouGov for Zbooni would rather contact companies through WhatsApp and 65% messaged a business in the past year; these are stated preferences, not conversion rates; click-to-WhatsApp cost data for UAE hotels is not published.
  • UAE influencer ad spend was USD 69.35m at the end of 2024 by Statista's estimate; individuals who create advertising content on social media in the UAE, paid or unpaid, need a UAE Media Council Advertiser Permit, with exemptions for people promoting their own business and for under-18s in educational, sports, cultural or awareness activities; fines under the media law run up to AED 1m.

Users and demographics

DataReportal's Digital 2026 report for the UAE, compiled by Kepios from platform advertising tools, GSMA and UN data, counts 12.5m social media user identities in late 2025, equal to 110% of the 11.4m population, an increase of 1.8m (+16.7%) since late 2024. Internet users number 11.3m, or 99.0% of the population, and the country carries 23.0m cellular connections, 202% of population (DataReportal, 2025). DataReportal reports the social media identities it counts as 67.1% male and 32.9% female; this describes advertising identities in the figures DataReportal reports, not people, not hotel guests, and not every platform. DataReportal cautions that identities are advertising-tool figures and may not equal unique individuals, that platform age coverage and audience definitions differ so audiences must not be summed, and that Meta, X and Reddit revised their figures during the year, so year-on-year comparisons with earlier editions are unreliable.

For a hotel marketer, this means any campaign aimed at women in the UAE is working with a smaller addressable pool than the male pool on each major platform as DataReportal reports them: Facebook's adult audience is 25.8% female and 73.2% male (the published shares sum to 99% and the residual is not redistributed), Instagram's 34.0% female, YouTube's 28.4% and Snapchat's 38.0%. Snapchat is the most gender-balanced of the large platforms on these figures (DataReportal, late 2025).

Platforms per person and video hours

Fusion5's Outliers 2026 synthesis of the We Are Social and Meltwater Digital 2026 data, drawing on GWI survey waves of UAE internet users aged 16+, reports that UAE internet users aged 16+ actively use 8.69 social platforms a month, the highest figure globally, and watch 15 hours 8 minutes of video a week, 7th globally; the figure describes surveyed internet users, not every resident. We Are Social's own Dubai launch of the same dataset, as reported by Campaign Middle East, quoted about 7 platforms a month for the UAE against a global figure of about 6.5; the Fusion5/GWI reading and the Campaign Middle East reading use different samples and measurement approaches and are not reconciled in the published articles. The global Digital 2026 overview gives 6.75 platforms a month and 18 hours 36 minutes a week of social time including YouTube and TikTok, so UAE users are above the global norm for platform breadth. An older New Media Academy study (2020) put UAE users at an average of 10 social accounts each. Monthly messaging-app use in the UAE is 98.5% of users (We Are Social / Meltwater via Campaign ME, 2026).

Daily time spent on social media in the UAE is the one headline metric this edition could not find in a current source. The most recent open figures are 2 hours 59 minutes a day from Digital 2019 (11th globally) and 3.5 hours a day for Middle East users from the 2020 New Media Academy study. YouGov's 2025 UAE Media Consumption Report, largely gated, states that one in three UAE residents consumes more than 3 hours of media a day. The global 2026 benchmark is just over 1 hour a day browsing social networks and well over 2.5 hours including YouTube and TikTok (DataReportal Digital 2026 Global Overview, 2025).

Not established in reviewed sources. A 2025 or 2026 figure for UAE daily time spent on social media. It would sit in the full DataReportal Digital 2026 UAE slide deck (GWI Q3 2025 wave), in GWI's UAE dataset, or in Statista's paywalled weekly time-on-social series.

The platform reach table

Table 9.1 reproduces DataReportal's late-2025 advertising reach for each platform in the UAE and adds the conflicting figures from other sources. Reach is the number of identities a platform's advertising tools say an advertiser can reach; it is not monthly active users, it is not a deduplicated count of residents, and it should not be compared with user counts published by the platforms themselves (DataReportal, 2025). LinkedIn's figure measures registered members rather than monthly active users and is not directly comparable with the other rows (DataReportal, end 2025). Each row uses its publisher's unit and period; the rows must not be summed (DataReportal, 2025).

Two conflicting estimates

TikTok. DataReportal records 12.5m TikTok users aged 18+ in the UAE in late 2025, 134.6% of the adult population, up 16.7% year on year and up 10.6% in the single quarter from July to October 2025. Fusion5's Outliers 2026 report, published three months later from the We Are Social and Meltwater edition of the same Digital 2026 programme, puts TikTok UAE reach at 15.5m, and this is the figure Edition 1 of this book carried. The two series come from different samples and measurement approaches and are not merged here; the gap most plausibly reflects different age bases or different reading dates, but neither publisher explains it. This book records both and treats 12.5m adult identities 18+ as the better-defined figure because its age base and date are stated; it is not a count of unique resident adults (DataReportal, late 2025; Fusion5 Outliers 2026 via Campaign ME, 2026).

Instagram. DataReportal gives 8.05m Instagram ad reach in October 2025, an advertising-audience estimate rather than a deduplicated resident count. NapoleonCat's marketing-API estimate for September 2026 shows 10.96m in its headline and 11.2m in its table, 103.3% of population, with 25 to 34 year olds at 44.7% of users and 35 to 44s at 24.6%. A figure above 100% of population cannot be a count of residents, and the two are a year apart, so they are not reconcilable from published material. DataReportal provides the clearer reference; NapoleonCat is useful only for the age distribution it publishes. LinkedIn shows a smaller gap in the opposite direction: 10.0m registered members (DataReportal, end 2025), a unit that is not monthly active users and not comparable with other platforms' advertising reach, against a 9.58m addressable audience (NapoleonCat, September 2026), with NapoleonCat putting 48% of LinkedIn's UAE users at 25 to 34. For Snapchat, trade press in November 2025 quoted about 5.09m UAE users, consistent in magnitude with DataReportal's 5.13m.

ONS READING Reach tables flatter every platform in the UAE because expatriate turnover, dual accounts and business profiles inflate identities relative to residents, which is why TikTok and Instagram estimates can exceed 100% of their age base. The useful unit for planning is therefore not the published reach but the audience estimate inside each ad platform for the exact geography, age and interest set a hotel intends to buy, checked at the time of booking. We advise hotels to treat the DataReportal table as a ranking of platforms, not as a count of people.

2. How social drives travel decisions

Inspiration shares

The most recent UAE-specific findings come from Skyscanner's Travel Trends 2027 survey, released in October 2026 from a global sample of more than 28,000 travellers with a UAE sample of 1,000: UAE travellers name YouTube (63%), Instagram (59%) and TikTok (51%) as travel inspiration sources, overlapping selections that record reported inspiration and intention, not hotel bookings. The same survey finds that 92% of UAE travellers intend to travel abroad as much as or more than before in 2027, that 88% of UAE Millennials would be likely to book a hotel offering nutritionally focused breakfasts, and that 49% of UAE Gen Z prioritise on-site fitness facilities (Skyscanner Travel Trends 2027 via TradeArabia, 2026).

Simon-Kucher's 2026 Travel Trends Study, as reported by TravelDailyNews, states that 65% of younger travellers in the UAE and 70% in India say social media influences their travel decisions; the report frames the piece around Gen Z and Millennials but does not define "younger travellers" and gives no sample size or method. musafir.com's 2026 Annual Travel Insights report, covering MENA with an emphasis on the UAE and without a stated methodology, says Instagram influences the decisions of 52% of travellers, 44% watch YouTube travel vlogs before booking, and 38% of Gen Z turn to TikTok. Wyndham's survey of UAE Gen Z puts the figure lower: 26% say social platforms such as Instagram and TikTok are their biggest travel influence, while 79% use or want to use AI tools to plan trips and 63% prefer hotels that reflect local culture.

TikTok's own claims for the UAE, published through Gulf Business without a named study or date, are that more than 70% of UAE TikTok users use the platform to find travel ideas and that 59% have booked a trip after being inspired by TikTok content, with 64% in Saudi Arabia. The Ipsos study commissioned by TikTok for Business, "The Future of Travel Decision Making", covers global and MENA audiences and is gated; its published headline figures are that 80% of travellers take action within a week of seeing travel content, 35% act immediately, 52% say creators inspired their last trip, 35% were influenced by a creator at the point of booking, and transactional travel searches on TikTok rose 142% year on year. TikTok's regional head of travel quoted a parallel set in May 2025: 80% act within a week of a travel video, 35% purchase what they saw, 59% discovered travel inspiration on TikTok, 41% purchased after travel content, and 75% of those who booked reported no regrets. A further TikTok report says 61% of its users increased travel spend year on year, with markets and sample not visible.

Snap's commissioned Ipsos research (2022, GCC and MENA) states that 86% of daily Snapchatters turn to the app for travel inspiration before a trip, 87% planned to travel within six months, 67% are likely to be the main leisure decision-maker, 40% share Snaps while travelling and 30% post a Story review after a trip. Expedia Group's Traveler Value Index 2025, drawn from 11,000 adults in 11 markets that do not include the UAE but do include China and the UK, finds 61% find trip ideas on social media (35% in 2022), 73% say influencer recommendations influenced a booking, and 84% of under-40s say so.

Two UAE surveys name platforms without percentages: TGM Research (N=1,000, February 2025) names Facebook a top source of travel inspiration and finds that more than half of UAE respondents organise trips independently while about 15% use agencies, and Allianz Partners (N=500, 2025) names YouTube, Facebook and Instagram as the social sources of inspiration, with 34% planning to spend more than USD 3,000 on their next holiday. An older RSA survey of 500 UAE residents (c.2019) found up to 80% plan holidays around photos to share on social media and 69% feel pressure to visit a location seen on social media (RSA via Gulf Business).

Brand research on social and the influencer gap between the UAE and Saudi Arabia

We Are Social's Digital 2026 UAE and Saudi launch reports that social networks are the primary brand and product research tool for 48.1% of UAE users surveyed, against 60% in Saudi Arabia, and that WhatsApp is the most-used platform in the region at more than 80% of the population; these survey percentages describe the publisher's survey population and question, not observed bookings, and messaging usage is not a WhatsApp market share. Globally, more than 30% of adult internet users discover new brands through social media advertising (DataReportal Digital 2026 Global Overview, 2025). Statista data cited by Al Etihad puts almost a third of UAE internet users as followers of influencers or online experts.

The sharpest contrast in the chapter is in purchase influence. Only 7% of UAE users say they have bought something on an influencer's recommendation, against 19.3% of Saudi users (We Are Social / Meltwater via Campaign ME, 2026). Across the GCC, Qoruz reports that 62% of consumers regularly see creator-led content and 35% say creator content directly influences their purchases. The two readings measure different things (a reported purchase versus a felt influence) and cannot be averaged, but together they say that UAE residents are heavier researchers and lighter influencer buyers than their Saudi neighbours (We Are Social / Meltwater via Campaign ME, 2026; Qoruz via Business Wire, 2023).

Another finding points in a different direction. Skyscanner found in June 2026 that 86% of UAE travellers want to explore places that feel new or different from destinations commonly seen on social media or recommended by their social circles. In its 2025 wave, 81% of UAE travellers were interested in "hotel hopping" across several properties in one destination and 76% had picked a destination mainly on the basis of where they would stay (Skyscanner Travel Trends via Gulf News).

What it means The hotel, not the city, is often the decision for UAE travellers: 76% have chosen a destination because of where they would stay, so videos of individual properties on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok can promote the destination as well as the hotel (Skyscanner Travel Trends via Gulf News; Skyscanner Travel Trends 2027 via TradeArabia) .

3. Platform by platform

Each sub-section below follows the same order: UAE audience, who uses it, travel role, hospitality ad formats with published evidence, paid benchmarks with their geography, platform-published hospitality cases (marked as self-reported), organic benchmarks, and a factual note on how hotels use it with ONS's reading in a judgement box. Where no UAE figure exists, the sub-section says so rather than substituting a global one.

Instagram

Audience. DataReportal records Instagram advertising reach of 8.05m in the UAE in October 2025, 70.5% of the population, up 16.7% in a year, with the adult audience 66.0% male; advertising-audience estimates are not deduplicated resident counts. NapoleonCat's higher estimate (10.96m to 11.2m) conflicts and is recorded in Table 9.1; its age distribution puts 44.7% of UAE Instagram users at 25 to 34 and 24.6% at 35 to 44. Among Arab youth aged 18 to 24 across 17 states, 61% used Instagram daily in 2022 and 17% named it their preferred channel in 2023, second only to Facebook.

Travel role. Instagram is the second most-used inspiration source for UAE travellers at 59%, influences the decisions of 52% of MENA travellers in the musafir.com survey, and is one of the two most influential platforms for Indian international travellers alongside YouTube. FINN Partners finds that Indian Gen Z relies on Instagram specifically, without a percentage.

Hospitality ad formats and evidence. The documented hotel format on Meta is Advantage+ Shopping with catalogue ads for travel, which price inventory by travel dates. Barcelo Hotel Group's test with Jakala in Spain (18 July to 17 August 2024, adults 24+) recorded 29% more bookings, 31% lower cost per booking and 35% lower cost per booking initiation than manual Feed, Stories and Reels campaigns; this is a selected, self-reported campaign result for one Spanish group, not a UAE hotel benchmark, and it does not establish incremental causality or a reusable target. Click-to-WhatsApp placements on Instagram and Facebook are the second documented format; 55% of the hotel clients in Asksuite's own WhatsApp customer base run such campaigns, a vendor-base proportion rather than a figure for all hotels. No Meta-published case for a UAE hotel with figures was found in the sources reviewed (see Gaps).

Paid benchmarks. Meta's UAE costs are not split by placement or industry in any public dataset; the all-industry Superads figures in the Facebook section apply to Instagram placements as well and are vendor sample estimates, not a UAE hotel budget target. Edition 1 carried a global Meta carousel CTR of 0.49% from a compilation (Foundry CRO).

Organic benchmarks. Global travel brands recorded a median 0.341% engagement per Instagram post by follower in 2024, against 0.36% for all industries, posting 3.58 times a week (Rival IQ 2025 Benchmark Report). Hotel and hospitality accounts worldwide run at about 0.46% per post, 0.02 percentage points below the all-industry 0.48% (Socialinsider, January 2026, global); other vendors use different denominators and their figures are not comparable (via TURNER PR). Travel and hospitality brands worldwide receive 46 inbound Instagram engagements a day, more than on any other network (Sprout Social, global).

How hotels use it. UAE hotels use Instagram for property and F&B imagery, Reels of rooms and views, Stories for offers, creator collaborations and the click-to-WhatsApp enquiry path; the published evidence for paid performance sits in catalogue ads for travel and in the Spanish Barcelo case rather than in any UAE case (Jakala, Jul-17 Aug 2024; Asksuite, 2026).

ONS READING Instagram remains the primary inspiration and brand channel for UAE hotels, with a 59% inspiration share among UAE travellers surveyed by Skyscanner. The male skew of the UAE advertising audience (66.0%) means leisure campaigns aimed at women reach a smaller pool than the headline 8.05m implies. For direct-booking performance, the published evidence favours catalogue ads for travel over manually built creative, but the only published numbers are Spanish and self-reported, so a UAE hotel whose own account history does not yet include the format has reason to run an A/B test before shifting budget.

Facebook

Audience. Facebook has the largest Meta advertising audience in the UAE at 9.70m advertising reach in October 2025 (DataReportal), 85.0% of the population, up 7.2% year on year but down 1.0% in the July to October quarter; the adult audience is reported as 25.8% female and 73.2% male, the most male-skewed of any platform in the table; the published shares sum to 99% and the residual is not redistributed, and advertising reach is not unique resident population. Messenger's advertising reach is 5.65m, unchanged year on year, and is not added to other platform audiences (DataReportal, 2025). Among Arab youth, Facebook was used daily by 72% in 2022 and was the single most preferred channel at 18% in 2023, although in Saudi Arabia daily use was lower at 55%.

Travel role. Facebook is named a top source of travel inspiration by UAE respondents to TGM Research and is one of the three social sources named by Allianz Partners' UAE panel. It does not appear in Skyscanner's top three for UAE travellers.

Paid benchmarks with geography. The only UAE cost series found is Superads' all-industry vendor dataset of thousands of advertiser accounts: UAE Meta CPM averaged about USD 15.80 between July 2025 and July 2026, with a monthly high of USD 23.52 in November 2025 and a low of USD 8.92 in May 2026, against a global average of about USD 20.60; these are vendor sample estimates, not hotel-specific and not a UAE hotel budget target. UAE median CPC was about 1.08, high 1.664 in November 2025 and low 0.501 in May 2026, against a global 1.046; the currency is not explicit on the retrieved series and no AED conversion is used here (Superads, Jul 2025-Jul 2026; Superads). Edition 1 carried an agency's unsourced UAE Meta CPM range of AED 25 to 60 (body) or AED 20 to 60 (FAQ), with F&B blended ROAS of 2 to 3.5x (Impulse Digital, 2026). Travel-vertical Meta benchmarks exist only for US-centric or unstated geographies and are set out in Table 9.3; the spread between them is wide, with travel CPC ranging from USD 0.38 to USD 0.95 and conversion rates from 4.20% to 5.4% depending on the compilation, and the separately aggregated CPC, CTR, CVR, CPM and CPA figures in any one row do not describe a single coherent campaign and must not be combined to forecast spend, bookings or ROAS.

Platform-published hospitality cases. Meta's own success-story library returned no UAE hotel case with figures in the sources reviewed; the Barcelo case above is the nearest hotel evidence and is a selected Spanish example (Jakala, Jul-17 Aug 2024). Organic benchmarks: global travel brands earned 0.061% engagement per Facebook post in 2024 against 0.046% for all industries, posting 3.10 times a week; travel and hospitality brands worldwide receive 36 inbound Facebook engagements a day.

How hotels use it. UAE hotels use Facebook for lead-generation campaigns (staycation packages, brunch and F&B offers, weddings and meetings enquiries), for South Asian and older expatriate audiences, and as the account layer for Instagram and WhatsApp advertising (DataReportal, 2025; Asksuite, 2026).

ONS READING Facebook's 85.0% advertising reach and 73.2% male skew make it the UAE's broadest and most male surface, suited to lead-gen for staycations, F&B and MICE where the decision maker is often a male head of household or office manager. The November 2025 CPM peak and May 2026 trough in the Superads series coincide with the UAE National Day and Q4 retail season on one side and the 2026 conflict-driven demand collapse on the other, although the vendor series is all-industry and does not establish a causal link. A hotel whose own account history shows the same seasonal pattern has a case for weighting brand spend towards the cheaper spring months when occupancy also needs the most help. Edition 1's AED 20 to 60 CPM range is consistent in order of magnitude with the USD 8.92 to 23.52 monthly range.

TikTok

Audience. TikTok is the largest platform in the UAE on either reading: 12.5m adult identities 18+ in late 2025 (DataReportal), up 16.7% year on year and 10.6% in a single quarter, or 15.5m (Fusion5 Outliers 2026, a different sample); both are recorded in Table 9.1 and are not merged, and neither is a count of unique resident adults. DataReportal reports its UAE advertising audience as 32.9% female and 67.1% male. In Saudi Arabia users spend about 1 hour 10 minutes a day on TikTok; no UAE time figure is published (We Are Social via Campaign ME, 2026). Among Arab youth, daily use rose from 21% in 2020 to 50% in 2022 (60% in Saudi Arabia). In 2022 the #Dubai hashtag had 81.8bn TikTok views, ranking Dubai first of 140 cities in a third-party travel index (Bounce via RLI).

Travel role. 51% of UAE travellers use TikTok for inspiration (Skyscanner 2026), 38% of MENA Gen Z turn to it (musafir.com), and TikTok's own undated claim is that more than 70% of UAE users use it for travel ideas and 59% have booked after TikTok content. In the UK, a Dubai source market, 59% of TikTok users who book after discovering a destination on the platform do so within one week.

Hospitality ad formats with published evidence. TikTok has published more hospitality case material than any other platform active in the Gulf. Every case below is a selected, self-reported campaign result published by the platform, not a representative UAE hotel benchmark; the figures do not establish incremental causality, profit or a reusable target. Address Hotels + Resorts (Emaar Hospitality, 15 UAE properties targeted across the Middle East, Turkey, Africa and Pakistan) ran Catalog Ads for Travel in beta with single video, carousel and first-party retargeting for a winter campaign and reported ROAS of 7x and bookings 1.5x against the prior period; the campaign year and measurement basis are not specified, and the page's claimed CPA reduction is arithmetically invalid and is excluded here (TikTok for Business). Visit Abu Dhabi used TikTok Content Suite to license creator UGC as In-Feed Ads to a GCC audience and reported 5.3m users reached, 8.3m+ two-second views, 43,000 link clicks, a 6-second view-through rate 2x benchmark and a 6-second cost per view 73% below benchmark. Visit Saudi ran MENA's first Branded Search Hub with Search Ads, reporting 1.5m+ hub views, 18m+ engagements and a 1.2x uplift in organic search (TikTok for Business). Etihad Airways' Dynamic Travel Ads conversion lift study across the UAE, UK, US and Australia reported a 7% lift in flight searches and a 17% lift in flight bookings; the page's incremental ROAS notation is inconsistent and that figure is excluded (TikTok for Business). Accor's global Dynamic Travel Ads test against standard conversion campaigns reported cost per booking -46%, bookings 1.8x and ROAS 2.3x; the same programme was quoted in Gulf Business as -50% cost per booking and 2x bookings, so both figures are recorded. The UAE "World's Coolest Winter" hashtag challenge in 2020-21 reached 70m+ views, 13.5m in six days, with 8,700+ user videos (TikTok via Campaign ME). Non-UAE hotel cases include RIU Hotels (+86.8% start checkout, +58.3% purchases in a conversion lift study) and Princess Hotels in the US market (ROAS 25.74, 129 bookings, 7.75% conversion), and a&o Hostels in Europe (1.6m first-time users reached, booking CPA as low as EUR 2, 17% below other paid channels, EUR 400,000 attributed revenue, 7 to 14 day conversion window) (TikTok for Business; Simon-Kucher via TravelDailyNews, 2025). At the TikTok Ad Awards 2025 GCC, Experience Abu Dhabi won Gold and Bronze, the latter for "Turning UGC into Destination Fame"; no hotel brand was among the winners.

Paid benchmarks with geography. No Middle East travel split is published; Table 9.4 collects the global and unstated-geography vendor datasets, all graded Estimate. They disagree with each other: travel median CTR is 0.22%, the lowest of 16 industries, in one dataset and 0.98% in another, and platform-wide CPM runs from USD 4.08 to USD 10.40 depending on objective and source; the metrics in each row are aggregated separately. They do not describe a single campaign and must not be combined to forecast spend, bookings or ROAS (Focus Digital; DigitalApplied via Hawky.ai, Q1 2026). The only Middle East figure is Edition 1's Stackmatix range of CPM USD 3.40 to 7.80 and CPC USD 0.30 to 0.80 (25th to 75th percentile, Q4 2025 to Q1 2026), which sits inside the global ranges.

Organic benchmarks. Global travel brands earned a median 2.73% engagement per TikTok video in 2024 against 1.73% for all industries, posting 2.11 videos a week; the all-industry median was 2.01% in 2025 data (Quid/Rival IQ, global, organic engagement using each platform's definitions, not paid CTR and not a UAE hotel target). Travel and hospitality brands worldwide receive only 7 inbound TikTok engagements a day in Sprout's count, which excludes likes.

How hotels use it. UAE hotel groups use TikTok for catalogue-fed direct-booking campaigns with retargeting, for licensed creator content run as In-Feed Ads, for hashtag challenges tied to destination campaigns, and for organic short video of rooms, pools and F&B; destination bodies have used Branded Search Hubs and Search Ads.

ONS READING TikTok holds the most platform-published hospitality case material in the UAE (Address Hotels, Visit Abu Dhabi, Etihad), which makes it the best-documented performance channel for direct bookings after Google search, but every figure is a selected result self-reported by the platform, and the Address case omits its year and measurement basis. The benchmark picture is contradictory: travel CTR ranges from 0.22% to 0.98% depending on dataset, so a hotel's own account history is the only usable benchmark. The practical case for TikTok rests on the Catalog Ads for Travel format and on UGC licensing through Content Suite, both of which require a clean room-level feed and creator rights, not on reach alone.

YouTube

Audience. DataReportal records YouTube advertising reach of 8.37m in the UAE in late 2025, 73.3% of the population, growing slowly at 1.5% a year, with an advertising audience reported as 71.6% male; this is an advertising-audience estimate and is not added to other platforms' figures. UAE internet users aged 16+ watch 15 hours 8 minutes of video a week, 7th globally, although that figure covers all video, not YouTube alone (Fusion5 Outliers 2026 / GWI via Campaign ME, 2025). Among Arab youth, 53% used YouTube daily in 2022 (83% in Saudi Arabia) and 13% named it their preferred channel in 2023.

Travel role. YouTube is the single most-used inspiration source among UAE travellers at 63% (Skyscanner Travel Trends 2027 via TradeArabia, 2026). In the musafir.com MENA survey, 44% watch YouTube travel vlogs before booking. For India, the largest source market for Abu Dhabi hotel guests in 2025 and a short-haul priority named by IHCL for its own hotels in 2026, YouTube dominates the survey evidence: 53% of Indian international travellers say YouTube vlogs are their most influential inspiration source (FINN Partners, 2,000 Indian respondents; reported inspiration, not a measure of UAE inbound conversion), 68% use YouTube for trip ideas and Shorts influence about 40% (Google and Kantar, N=1,000), and MMGY names YouTube and Instagram the most influential platforms for 90% of Indian travellers who say social shaped their destination choice.

Hospitality ad formats and evidence. Google's own MENA travel case material from Think with Google has been retired and now redirects, so the published evidence is old and self-reported: in 2020-21 YouTube searches for Dubai and Qatar rose up to 74% in a year and Dubai Tourism's movie-trailer series earned 72m+ views. No YouTube hospitality ad benchmark for the UAE was found in the sources reviewed; Edition 1 carried a global compilation figure of YouTube travel CPM USD 4.70 and CTR 0.78% (Foundry CRO).

Organic benchmarks. The all-industry median organic engagement per YouTube post was 0.21% in 2025 data (global); no travel-specific YouTube figure is published (Rival IQ / Quid 2026).

How hotels use it. UAE hotels use YouTube for long-form property films, room and suite tours, destination guides aimed at source markets, Shorts repurposed from vertical video, and in-stream advertising bought through Google Ads alongside search.

ONS READING YouTube is the most under-documented platform relative to its reported influence: first among UAE travellers' inspiration sources at 63% in the Skyscanner survey and first for Indian travellers, yet with no current platform-published Gulf hospitality case and no UAE benchmark. For a hotel whose own guest data shows meaningful Indian demand, the market IHCL describes as its most reliable source market, a programme of vlogs, creator stays and Shorts aimed at India has more survey support than any other single content investment, although none of that evidence measures conversion.

Snapchat

Audience. DataReportal records Snapchat advertising reach of 5.13m in the UAE in late 2025, 44.9% of the population, up 5.0% year on year, with the most gender-balanced large-platform audience at 38.0% female and 61.3% male (the published categories do not sum exactly to 100% and the residual is preserved); the figure is an advertising-audience estimate, not a resident count. Snap itself has stated that it reaches about one in three UAE 18 to 34 year olds (2023) and, in older interviews, about 60% of UAE 13 to 24 year olds (2020-21). Trade press quoted about 5.09m UAE users in November 2025 (tbreak). The regional stronghold is Saudi Arabia: 25m monthly active users (December 2024), reach of more than 90% of 13 to 34 year olds, 71% of Saudi parents on the app, and 84% daily use among Saudi youth in 2022. The Middle East had 67m unique monthly Snapchatters in 2020, with more than 85% of MENA daily users using Lenses daily (Snap via Arabian Business / Gulf News).

Travel role. Snap's Ipsos research says 86% of daily Snapchatters use the app for pre-trip inspiration, 40% share Snaps while travelling and 30% post a Story review afterwards. Snap's GCC data says more than 70% of Snapchatters plan Ramadan celebrations, purchases, outfits and gifting on the app and 89% are likely to purchase after compelling ads. In Qatar, Snapchatters are 33% more likely than the GCC average to click sponsored content and 47% more likely to swipe up on Stories (Snap x GWI via tbreak, 2025).

Hospitality ad formats and evidence. The documented formats are AR Lenses and Snap Ads with Story swipe-ups. Each case below is a dated, named campaign result published by Snap or its partners, a selected example rather than a UAE hotel benchmark, and none establishes incremental causality or a reusable target. Dubai Tourism's 2020 #TillWeMeetAgain Lenses (Burj Khalifa, Dubai Frame, Al Seef, Madinat Jumeirah) were used by 9.2m+ people in the UK and France in two weeks, with time spent 180% above expectation and 30%+ of users positive about visiting Dubai (Dubai Media Inc / DTCM). Emaar Hospitality launched custom Lenses for Address and Vida hotels in November 2025 for pre-stay inspiration and post-stay sharing; no results were published (tbreak). Snap's Saudi National Day 2024 "Kingdom Lenscape" reached 10m+ users with 64m+ impressions and 12.8 seconds average playtime, and Snap reports AR brand lift of +4 points ad awareness, 4x its benchmark. Etihad Airways on Snapchat reported 318% higher average revenue per booking and an 87% higher flight search rate than other channels (Snap via Communicate Online, 2022). Snap's commissioned OMG MENA and Annalect study attributes about 25% of total digital-platform sales volume in the GCC to Snapchat and claims 5x the active attention of social in-feed video; both are Snap-commissioned claims. No Snapchat CPM, CPC or CTR benchmark for the UAE or for hospitality was found in the sources reviewed.

How hotels use it. UAE and Saudi hotels use Snapchat for GCC leisure reach around Ramadan, Eid and school holidays, for AR Lenses at the property, and for Story ads aimed at under-25s; the published hotel examples are Emaar's Lenses and Etihad's booking lift (tbreak, 2025; Snap via Communicate Online, 2022).

ONS READING Snapchat's value to a UAE hotel is the Gulf leisure traveller, above all Saudi Arabia, where Snap says it reaches more than 90% of 13 to 34 year olds, and the UAE's own under-25s. The GCC was Dubai's second-largest source region at 2.99m international overnight visitors in 2025 and 16% of visits in the first eight months of 2026, so a platform with this Saudi penetration earns a place in the plan of a hotel whose guest data shows GCC drive-market demand. The evidence is wholly Snap-commissioned and lacks any UAE cost benchmark, which supports testing with a limited budget before increasing spend.

LinkedIn

Audience. LinkedIn has 10.0m registered members in the UAE at end 2025, 87.6% of the population, up 11.1% year on year, 69.0% male; registered members is not monthly active users and is not directly comparable with other platforms' advertising-reach estimates (DataReportal). NapoleonCat's addressable audience estimate is 9.58m, with 48% aged 25 to 34, 26.1% aged 18 to 24 and 24% aged 35 to 54. Only 12% of Arab youth used LinkedIn daily in 2022 and 4% named it their preferred channel in 2023.

Travel role and hospitality use. LinkedIn plays no measured part in leisure travel inspiration in any UAE survey found. Its relevance is to meetings, incentives, conferences and events, corporate travel, serviced-apartment long stays and employer branding; Abu Dhabi hosted 2.2m MICE delegates at 6,600 events in 2025, up 40%, and Majestic Hotels said in October 2026 that long stays were 25 to 30% of its own business, an operator-specific figure rather than a market-wide one.

Paid benchmarks. Only global B2B vendor syntheses exist: Sponsored Content CTR 0.4% to 1.0%, CPC USD 6 to 15, CPM USD 30 to 90, CPL USD 75 to 300, with Lead Gen Form conversion of 8% to 15%; the metrics are separately aggregated and are not a coherent campaign to forecast from (ClickMinded synthesis, 2026). No hospitality, MICE or UAE breakdown is published (ClickMinded synthesis, 2026).

ONS READING LinkedIn is the one platform where the audience is corporate by definition, which fits MICE venue sales, corporate rate agreements and long-stay products, but at global CPMs of USD 30 to 90 it is several times the all-industry Meta CPM recorded for the UAE and unsuitable for leisure. For a hotel with a MICE or corporate product, account-based campaigns at named companies and event organisers, with Lead Gen Forms to keep cost per lead down, are a suitable approach. Measure them against the value of a single group booking rather than social CPMs.

X

DataReportal records X advertising reach of 2.85m in the UAE in late 2025, 25.0% of the population, down 183,000 (6.0%) in a year; this is an advertising-audience estimate, not a count of unique residents. Among Arab youth, 33% used Twitter daily in 2022 (73% in Saudi Arabia) and 8% named X their preferred channel in 2023. Travel brands worldwide earned a median 0.009% engagement per post on X in 2024 against 0.015% for all industries, posting 0.34 times a week; the all-industry median was 0.03% in 2025 data (Rival IQ 2025 Benchmark Report; Rival IQ / Quid 2026). Travel and hospitality brands still receive 19 inbound X engagements a day, much of it service traffic (Sprout Social Content Benchmarks 2025, 2024). No UAE travel-specific X data was found.

ONS READING X is a guest-service, media-relations and Saudi-market listening channel for UAE hotels, not an acquisition channel: a shrinking 2.85m audience and 0.009% organic engagement do not justify paid media for leisure.

Pinterest

Neither DataReportal nor Pinterest publishes a UAE audience figure. Pinterest's global travel data for 2024 shows 1bn+ travel-related searches, 10bn+ travel saves, 8 in 10 weekly users planning summer trips on the platform and "travel vision board" searches up 210%. Skyscanner's UAE trend report cited a global Pinterest figure, searches for "book club retreat ideas" up 265%, in the same release that recorded UAE travellers' hotel-hopping interest.

Not established in reviewed sources. Pinterest audience size, demographics or travel usage for the UAE. Pinterest's advertising audience tool, which lists the UAE as a targetable market, would give an addressable estimate; Pinterest Predicts has no UAE cut.
ONS READING Pinterest matters for wedding, honeymoon and villa planners in the US, UK and Europe who are choosing Dubai or Ras Al Khaimah, not for the UAE resident market, and only for properties with a wedding or destination-celebration product.

WhatsApp

Audience. WhatsApp is the most-used platform in the region at more than 80% of the regional population, and 98.5% of UAE users surveyed use a messaging app monthly; messaging usage is not a WhatsApp market share (We Are Social / Meltwater via Campaign ME, 2026). Infobip puts UAE WhatsApp penetration at about 90% and reports MENA WhatsApp traffic on its platform up 36% in 2025, with 3.3bn global monthly users and 200m+ businesses on WhatsApp Business. Among Arab youth, 82% used WhatsApp daily in 2022, 98% in Saudi Arabia. DataReportal does not publish WhatsApp ad reach for the UAE.

Who uses it for business. A YouGov poll of 1,000 UAE respondents commissioned by Zbooni (February 2024) found 85% would rather contact companies through WhatsApp, 65% had used it to ask a business about a product or service in the past year against 55% for call centres, 48% for email and under 30% for social inboxes, and 87% prefer a human agent over a chatbot; the 85% is a stated survey preference, not WhatsApp penetration and not a conversion rate. Meta-commissioned global studies (2022) report 61% higher conversion with business messaging than email (Forrester) and that six in ten adults in 11 countries, not including the UAE, prefer messaging over email or calls (Kantar).

Hospitality ad format. Click-to-WhatsApp ads run on Facebook and Instagram and open a conversation in WhatsApp. Asksuite reports that 55% of its hotel WhatsApp Performance Suite clients run click-to-WhatsApp campaigns; this describes its own customer base, not all hotels. Meta's messaging billing and any free-entry rules for conversations started from ads are current operational terms that change; a hotel budgeting for the format needs to confirm current messaging prices and eligibility in Meta's own documentation before planning (Asksuite, 2026). UAE hotel cost per conversation or conversion data is not published; a vendor blog quoting UAE cost ranges without a dataset is not used here as data.

How hotels use it. UAE hotels and holiday-home operators use WhatsApp as the default enquiry, pre-arrival and concierge channel, with click-to-WhatsApp ads feeding staycation, brunch and group enquiries into the same inbox (YouGov for Zbooni via Communicate Online, 2024; Asksuite, 2026).

ONS READING WhatsApp is the conversion layer under every other platform in the UAE: 85% of the residents polled for Zbooni prefer it for contacting companies and 87% want a human on the other end, so a hotel that routes Instagram and Facebook campaigns into WhatsApp and staffs the inbox promptly is responding to the resident preferences reported in the survey. The absence of any published UAE cost per conversation means a hotel's own Ads Manager data is the only benchmark available, and vendor AED ranges without a dataset are best treated as marketing.

Telegram

Telegram is headquartered in Dubai and had 900m+ global users in April 2024, with its founder projecting 1bn monthly users within a year; no UAE user count is published and DataReportal does not report Telegram reach (Gulf Business). A commercial ad-archive sample of 1,463 UAE Telegram ad creatives from 325 advertisers between 1 March and 19 April 2026 was dominated by crypto (25%), forex (22%), stocks (15%), gold (15%) and Dubai real estate (14%), with no travel or hospitality advertiser in the sample.

ONS READING Telegram is a community channel for Russian-speaking and CIS residents and visitors rather than an advertising platform for hotels; the absence of any hospitality advertiser in a six-week UAE sample confirms that no competitor has yet found a case for it.

Reddit and Threads

Reddit's UAE advertising reach rose 188% to 2.45m in late 2025, the fastest growth of any platform in the table, and Threads reached 893k, 7.8% of the population; both are advertising-audience estimates and are not added to other platforms (DataReportal). Neither has any published travel role, hospitality case or benchmark for the UAE. Reddit's growth is worth watching for destination research threads; Threads is too small to plan around.

Source-market platforms

Dubai's international overnight visitors in 2025 came 21% from Western Europe, 15% each from the GCC, CIS and Eastern Europe, and South Asia, 11% from MENA and 9% from North East and South East Asia; in the first eight months of 2026, by share of visits as reported from DET figures, South Asia was 17% and the Gulf 16%. The platforms below are where those travellers plan.

China: Xiaohongshu, Douyin, WeChat and Ctrip. Dragon Trail's March 2025 survey of 1,022 mainland Chinese travellers (681 answering the inspiration questions) found Ctrip (69%) and Xiaohongshu (66%) the leading sources of destination information, and Ctrip the leading booking platform at 71% for packages, 66% for air and hotel and 55% for other bookings, ahead of Fliggy (35%, 31%, 28%) and Mafengwo (31%, 27%, 25%); the questions were multi-select, so the percentages are not exclusive market shares. In its September 2025 wave, 86% of Chinese travellers followed travel influencers but only 53% believed influencers had affected their decisions, and more than 60% had used AI tools to plan travel in 2025 (Dragon Trail). Dubai received 824,000 Chinese visitors in 2024, up 31%, and DET's China strategy uses Xiaohongshu for lifestyle content and Douyin for short-form video, alongside Alipay and WeChat Pay acceptance (DET via AGBI / China Daily). Dubai Tourism's "Discover Dubai in a New Way" Xiaohongshu campaign (13 June to 12 July 2024) combined hosted travel influencers with a UGC challenge offering flight tickets and hotel vouchers; no results were published (Jing Daily). Ras Al Khaimah recorded 19% growth in Chinese arrivals in 2025 (RAKTDA press release).

Russia: Yandex, VK and Telegram. Atlantis The Palm's winter 2023/24 campaign on Yandex Ads, using video presentations, brand keyword search ads and retargeting banners aimed at affluent Russians, reported 1,039% ROI and 669,000+ reach; this is a single platform-published, self-reported campaign result, not a benchmark, and it does not establish incremental return. Russian visitors to the UAE were about 2.4m in 2025 by the UAE Embassy in Moscow's count, or 1.7m tourist trips by the National Rating Agency's; after the 2026 conflict, Russia-UAE flights were about 100 a week in July 2026 and expected to reach about 300 a week by late October 2026, with arrivals expected to exceed 1m by the end of the summer season on 95 weekly flights from 11 cities (AGBI; Gulf News). No VK or Telegram audience or campaign data for UAE travel marketing was found.

India: YouTube and Instagram. Social media influenced the destination choice of 90% of Indian international travellers, with Instagram and YouTube the most influential platforms (MMGY, N=3,000+). YouTube vlogs are the most influential inspiration source for 53% (FINN Partners, survey of 2,000 Indian respondents), 68% use YouTube for trip ideas, Shorts influence about 40%, 59% trust creators for planning guidance, 77% research accommodation online, 24% of accommodation is booked through OTAs and the average booking path has seven touchpoints (Google and Kantar, N=1,000); all are reported inspiration and preference figures and none measures UAE inbound conversion. India supplied Abu Dhabi's largest hotel-guest market in 2025 at more than 436,000 guests, up 22%, and IHCL describes it as the most reliable source market for its own hotels during the 2026 downturn. 56% of the Indian travellers FINN surveyed prioritise hotel upgrades over flight upgrades.

Not established in reviewed sources. Audience sizes for Xiaohongshu, Douyin, WeChat, VK or Telegram users who are planning or researching UAE travel, and platform-share data for Russian travellers' trip planning. Dragon Trail's full PDF may hold Douyin and WeChat shares that were not legible in the fetched chart; a VK or Yandex audience report for Russian outbound travel would fill the Russia gap.
ONS READING For a UAE hotel, source-market platforms are a distribution question before they are a content question: Chinese travellers surveyed by Dragon Trail plan on Xiaohongshu but 66% book air and hotel on Ctrip, so a hotel without clean Ctrip inventory gains little from Xiaohongshu content. Russia is the only market with a published UAE hotel case (Atlantis on Yandex, a single self-reported example), and the Indian survey evidence points to YouTube and Instagram creators rather than a separate platform.

4. Creators, influencers and UGC

Market size

Statista data reported by Al Etihad puts UAE influencer advertising spend at USD 69.35m at the end of 2024, with influencer ad spend per internet user of USD 7.32 in 2025. The same article carries a forward estimate, but its dates, endpoint values and stated growth rate do not align with each other, so the forecast and its implied trend are omitted here rather than assuming a forecast period (Statista via Al Etihad, 2024). The same source forecasts UAE social media advertising at more than USD 503m in 2026, 12.5% of the total advertising market (Statista via Al Etihad, 2024). A secondary article puts UAE influencer marketing spend at an estimated USD 70m a year, consistent with the Statista figure and not independent of it (MENA Startup Digest, 2026; DataReportal, via MENA Startup Digest, late 2025).

Creator counts

Qoruz counts monetised creators with 1,000+ followers across the GCC at 150,000 in 2023, 220,000 in 2024 and 263,000 in 2025 year to date, a rise of 75% in two years; Lifestyle and Travel creators grew faster, from 31,000 to 58,000 (+87%), and Food and Culinary creators numbered 32,000 in 2025 (Qoruz via Business Wire, 2023). No UAE-only split is published (Qoruz via Business Wire, 2023). A MENA talent agency puts the region at 1.4m+ creators, 2,578 of them with 1m+ followers (Snap, DataReportal, Million via AGBI, 2024). The UAE government's Creators HQ in Dubai, launched in January 2025, reported in August 2025 (as carried by Khaleej Times and WAM) that it had attracted 2,415 active members from 147 countries since launch, and that 78 content creation companies from 24 countries had set up at the hub; these are Creators HQ membership figures, not a count of creators who relocated to the UAE in calendar 2025.

Advertiser Permit rules and fines

The UAE Media Council announced the Advertiser Permit on 30 July 2025 and made it mandatory three months later. As summarised by Gulf News from UAE Media Council guidance, it applies to individuals who create advertising content on social media in the UAE, whether paid or unpaid; applicants must be 18 or over; citizens and residents must hold a trade licence; exempt are individuals advertising their own products or services, or those of a company they own, through their personal accounts, and individuals under 18 who engage in educational, sports, cultural or awareness-related activities. The permit is valid for one year and is cancelled if not renewed within 30 days of expiry; visitors obtain a three-month visitor permit, extendable to six months, through a licensed advertising or talent agency, and the permit number must be displayed on the account (UAE Media Council via Khaleej Times / The National, 2025; UAE Media Council via Gulf News, 2025). Applications are made at uaemc.gov.ae through UAE Pass; the permit is free for citizens and residents for the first three years, then AED 1,000 a year, and the visitor permit costs AED 500 per three months; current fees, eligibility and processing times are those published by the Media Council's service at the time of application.

Fines under Federal Decree-Law No. 55 of 2023 on Media Regulation (in force 1 December 2023, with executive regulations from 31 October 2024) are set out in Cabinet Resolution No. 42 of 2025 on administrative violations and penalties: content-standard breaches carry fines up to AED 1,000,000; practising media activity without a licence carries AED 10,000 for a first offence and AED 40,000 for a second, with administrative closure if not remedied within 30 days; providing inaccurate or misleading information in a licence application carries AED 5,000, doubled on repeat; and publishing false news or forged documents carries AED 10,000 to AED 100,000 (Gulf News). Gulf News also reported figures for publishing with an expired licence and a 29 May 2025 start date for the Media Council's influencer licensing regime; the expired-licence figures could not be matched to the official schedule and the date is press-reported rather than the law's commencement date, so neither is relied on here (Gulf News). The Council may suspend or cancel a permit and delete or modify posts, and creators earning from commercial activity must hold a business licence, with permit fees waived for three years (Gulf News).

What it means A hotel hosting a visiting creator for a sponsored stay is commissioning advertising; the creator is not covered by the own-business exemption, needs a visitor permit obtained through a licensed agency and must show the permit number on the account, or both parties are exposed to the AED 10,000 unlicensed-operation fine (Gulf News (Advertiser Permit UAE: who needs it and how to apply online), data UAE Media Council; UAE Media Council via Khaleej Times / The National; Gulf News) .

Pricing evidence and its weakness

No structured UAE influencer rate survey by follower tier and platform was found. The only published pricing is anecdotal, from a Gulf News feature quoting creators: TikTok sponsored posts from AED 700 to AED 70,000, Instagram at AED 18 to 36 per 1,000 views and up to AED 73 per 1,000 views for sponsored content, and one creator citing AED 20,000+ per campaign (Gulf News, 2025). These are self-quoted asking prices, not transaction data, and the range is two orders of magnitude wide, so they cannot be used to budget a campaign.

Not established in reviewed sources. A UAE influencer rate card or pricing survey by tier (nano, micro, macro) and platform. Collabstr, HypeAuditor or the full Qoruz GCC report may publish tiers. ONS intends to address this with permissioned, aggregated campaign data, subject to client consent and data readiness.

UGC

The published cases, all selected and self-reported by platforms, favour creator and user content over studio creative. Visit Abu Dhabi's licensed creator UGC run as In-Feed Ads delivered a 6-second cost per view 73% below TikTok's benchmark, and Experience Abu Dhabi's "Turning UGC into Destination Fame" won at the TikTok Ad Awards 2025 GCC. The UAE's World's Coolest Winter challenge generated 8,700+ user videos (TikTok via Campaign ME, 2020). Snap reports 40% of daily Snapchatters in the GCC and MENA share Snaps while travelling and 30% post a Story review after a trip. Dubai Tourism's Xiaohongshu challenge asked users to share guides for hotel, shopping and attraction discounts (Jing Daily, 2024). Review-platform influence on UAE hotel bookings (Google, TripAdvisor, Booking.com) is covered in Chapter 14 and listed under Gaps here.

ONS READING The UAE creator market is growing fast in supply (GCC lifestyle and travel creators up 87% in two years; 2,415 Creators HQ members since January 2025) while resident purchase influence is low at 7% in the Digital 2026 survey, which points to a buyer's market for hotels: more creators chasing a pool Statista estimated at USD 69.35m in 2024 whose audiences research heavily but buy rarely on recommendation. We advise hotels to pay for usage rights and licensed UGC that can be run as paid media, where the platform evidence is strongest, rather than for reach on a creator's own account, and to make permit compliance a contract condition.

5. Organic benchmarks for hotels

Three global datasets describe organic hotel and travel performance, and none provides a UAE breakdown; none is a UAE hotel target and none measures paid CTR. Table 9.5 sets them side by side. Rival IQ's 2025 report (2024 data, 150 companies per industry) measures median organic engagement per post by follower, using each platform's definitions, and finds travel brands ahead of the all-industry median on TikTok and Facebook but behind on Instagram and X. Its 2026 edition (Quid/Rival IQ, 2025 data) adds Hotels and Resorts as an industry, but those figures sit in charts that could not be read, so only the all-industry medians are recorded. Socialinsider's January 2026 hospitality benchmark puts hotel Instagram engagement at about 0.46% per post, 0.02 percentage points below its all-industry 0.48%; other vendors quoted in the same trade article give far higher ranges because they define engagement differently, and the figures are not comparable (via TURNER PR). Sprout Social's 2025 travel and hospitality benchmarks (1m public profiles, February 2024 to January 2025, engagements excluding likes) measure volume rather than rate: 11 posts a day, 127 inbound engagements a day, 36 inbound messages a day and a 6% response rate.

Not established in reviewed sources. Organic engagement, posting frequency or response-time benchmarks for UAE hotels. Rival IQ's 2026 Hotels and Resorts figures sit in unreadable charts; Socialinsider publishes country hospitality pages for the US, UK, Spain, Italy and France but not the UAE; Dash Social's H1 2026 travel PDF could not be fetched. ONS intends to address this with permissioned, aggregated campaign data, subject to client consent and data readiness.
ONS READING The one organic figure that matters for budgeting is the 6% response rate on 36 inbound messages a day across global travel brands, because in the UAE the enquiry will arrive on WhatsApp or Instagram DM and a missed reply is a lost booking rather than a lost like. Engagement rates of 0.3% to 0.5% on Instagram are normal for hotels worldwide in the datasets cited, so a UAE property has little reason to chase higher vanity rates; replies, saves and link clicks are the more useful measures.

6. Residents versus tourists

The resident audience is the better measured of the two, with the caveat that every platform figure is an advertising-audience or survey estimate rather than a count of residents: 99.0% internet penetration, 8.69 platforms a month among internet users aged 16+, male majorities of 66% to 73% in the advertising audiences DataReportal reports for Meta, YouTube and TikTok, WhatsApp as the preferred business contact channel for 85% of those polled for Zbooni, and an inspiration mix led by YouTube (63%), Instagram (59%) and TikTok (51%) in the Skyscanner survey. 65% of younger UAE travellers say social influences their travel decisions, and 81% of UAE travellers in Skyscanner's 2025 wave were interested in staying at several properties in one destination, which is directly relevant to staycation and hotel-hopping offers for residents. During the 2026 downturn, domestic, regional and corporate demand held up midscale hotels better than luxury and upper-upscale, and Ras Al Khaimah reported domestic arrivals up 47% in H1 2026 (Cavendish Maxwell, via Skift; RAKTDA, via Khaleej Times).

The tourist audience is measured only by source market, and only before arrival: Chinese travellers on Ctrip and Xiaohongshu, Indian travellers on YouTube and Instagram, Saudi and GCC travellers on Snapchat and TikTok, UK travellers on TikTok, Russians via Yandex. No study was found that measures what tourists use while they are in the UAE. Platform-published destination cases such as Visit Abu Dhabi's 5.3m GCC reach show that in-market and near-market audiences can be bought at scale, but they are selected examples that report reach rather than in-destination behaviour (TikTok for Business).

Not established in reviewed sources. In-destination social media use by tourists in the UAE (which platforms visitors open while in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and whether they book F&B, attractions or room upgrades from them). DET guest surveys or a GWI travel segment cut would hold this.
ONS READING Resident campaigns can be planned from published data; tourist campaigns cannot, and must rely on platform location and language signals and on source-market evidence gathered before the trip. In 2026, with Dubai's international overnight visitors down 44% in January to August against a year earlier as reported from DET figures, and hotel occupancy at a city average of 36% in March 2026, the resident and GCC drive market carried the hotels, which is the audience the UAE social data describes best.

7. A platform priority framework for UAE hotels by goal

ONS READING The framework below is a set of conditional decision rules, each dependent on what the property's own booking and guest data show, not a fixed allocation. Direct bookings: for a hotel with a clean room-level feed, TikTok Catalog Ads for Travel and Meta catalogue ads for travel with retargeting carry the only published hospitality performance evidence in or near the UAE (Address Hotels 7x ROAS against the prior period; Barcelo -31% cost per booking in Spain), both selected self-reported cases, with YouTube and Instagram organic video doing the inspiration work that 63% and 59% of UAE travellers surveyed by Skyscanner report. F&B and staycations: where resident enquiries already arrive by message, Facebook and Instagram lead-gen and click-to-WhatsApp into a staffed inbox fit the survey evidence that 85% of residents polled prefer WhatsApp and 76% of UAE travellers have chosen a destination for the property, with timing weighted to months the hotel's own CPM history shows to be cheaper. MICE and corporate: for a hotel with meeting space or a long-stay product, LinkedIn account-based campaigns with Lead Gen Forms, measured per group booking, since no other platform reaches the buyer by job role; Abu Dhabi's 2.2m delegates in 2025 show the size of the opportunity. Source markets, where the property's guest data shows the market matters: Snapchat for Saudi Arabia and the GCC (Snap says 90%+ of Saudi 13 to 34s), YouTube and Instagram creators for India (53% to 68% YouTube inspiration in Indian surveys), Yandex for Russia (the only published UAE hotel case) and Ctrip inventory before any Xiaohongshu content for China (66% of surveyed Chinese travellers book air and hotel there).
ONS READING Two rules apply across every goal. First, every platform figure in this chapter for hospitality cost or lift is a selected result self-reported by the platform or drawn from a non-UAE vendor dataset, so a UAE hotel should test whether those findings apply to its own account before increasing spend; Edition 1's agency sources suggested a 60 to 90 day window for new prospecting, which is a planning assumption rather than a benchmark. Second, the Advertiser Permit makes a paid creator collaboration a licensed advertising transaction, and the hotel's contract should say so.

Gaps in the evidence

Not established in reviewed sources. In addition to the gaps flagged in each section: (1) UAE-specific hospitality ad benchmarks (CPM, CPC, CTR, CPL) for Meta, TikTok, Snapchat and LinkedIn, which no platform publishes; Superads gives UAE all-industry Meta figures only. (2) Click-to-WhatsApp cost per conversation and conversion for UAE hotels; only vendor claims without datasets exist (Asksuite, 2026). (3) Snapchat UAE monthly or daily active users and time spent; Snap publishes Saudi figures but only age-group reach statements for the UAE. (4) Meta-published UAE hospitality case studies; none surfaced in the sources reviewed (Jakala, Jul-17 Aug 2024). (5) Ipsos x TikTok MENA splits and TikTok's 2025 travel report sample, both gated. (6) Arab Youth Survey platform splits after 2022. (7) Review-platform influence on UAE hotel bookings (Google, TripAdvisor, Booking.com), covered only in Chapter 14. (8) Reconciliation of the TikTok 12.5m versus 15.5m and Instagram 8.05m versus 10.96m figures, which requires reading the ad-manager audience estimates for UAE 18+ directly (DataReportal, late 2025; Fusion5 Outliers 2026 via Campaign ME, 2026). ONS intends to address the benchmark gaps with permissioned, aggregated campaign data, subject to client consent and data readiness.
